Amen! There is a vast amount of information one misses out on when they drink the commentary haterade 😉

I agree that commentaries can be helpful. Very helpful.

I appreciate that he starts out by making sure his listeners know what the only truly inspired Word is. Commentaries have their place, but they should never take the place of God’s Word. And every reader of a commentary should remember that the writer of that commentary starts out with doctrine and an interpretation of God’s Word that influences the commentary (unless it’s strictly historical).

My biggest frustration is that people often start to believe that a regular person can not understand, apply and live out what God desires and communicates in His Word unless they read commentaries. I simply don’t believe that God desire that kind of mentality.
